Seat could manufacture its key Ibiza model in China if consumers there like it, a company official on Thursday night confirmed chairman Erich Schmitt as telling Spanish press earlier this week during the media launch of the revamped, fourth-generation model line.

VW-owned Seat intends to expand in China, India, Brazil and Argentina in coming months and has said it could manufacture in those markets. It is expected to say more before the summer.
Schmitt would not disclose investment figures for the upgraded Ibiza, as it unveiled the first five-door model off-line at its main Martorell factory in Barcelona.
The latest Ibiza, which accounts for 45% of the company’s sales, will go on sale late in May.
Seat hopes to invest EUR500m annually until 2018 and plans to double output to 800,000 vehicles, Schmitt said.
