The Spanish News Digest reports that Nissan Motor Iberica, the Spanish subsidiary of the Japanese carmaker Nissan, will stop producing the Nissan Terrano model at its factory in Barcelona for nine days from October 28.

The Spanish News Digest said that the move resulted from a low European sales forecast for the model. Employees from the Terrano line will be transferred to the Almera Tino line at two shifts during the period. The company will increase the production of the Almera Tino model, with production for of 2,000 units earmarked for German car retailers.
The SND report said that the trade unions did not oppose the transfer since they considered it a proof of the company’s ability to adapt to market conditions.
The report added that Nissan is considering stopping production of the Almera Tino in 2006 so that it does not compete with alliance partner Renault’s Scenic model.
Nissan Motor Iberica employs 2,915 in its Barcelona factory, another 270 in Montcada, Barcelona province, and also 570 in the Spanish capital Madrid. The company plans to close the Madrid plant and to transfer the production to Barcelona, which will produce an new all terrain Nissan model in 2005.
