Reuters noted that car sales, which tend to show erratic growth in year-on-year terms, had risen 6.2% in September.

A sector source told the news agency the figure was strong, since this year had three and a half fewer days in the month in which to register new cars.

Anfac reportedly said 118,780 cars were sold in October. In the first 10 months of the year 1.26 million cars were sold, up 10.2% year-on-year.

Sales of four-wheel drive vehicles in Spain – where there is much more robust economic growth than in neighbouring European countries – rose 6.8% in October and 19.4% in the 10-month period, to 80,098 units, Reuters said.

Spain’s gross domestic product grew 2.6% in the second quarter, outpacing many of its bigger European neighbours, with domestic demand underpinning growth, the report added.
