Iveco and Santana plan to make 10,000-15,000 units a year of their new Anibal SUV, which the companies hope to launch next year as part of a strategic partnership, Spanish newswire Europa Press reported, quoting Iveco officials.

An Iveco spokeswoman said the company is currently studying the feasibility of the project, which will require investment to produce “a more updated” SUV based on the current Anibal PS 10 model.


The spokeswoman would not reveal the new SUV’s name, however.


But Piero Bondesan, president of Fiat Iberica (which runs Iveco in Spain) said the companies plan to maintain the Anibal nameplate for the new SUV because “it’s very strong.” The truck will be distributed under the Iveco-Santana brand in Spain and as an Iveco model abroad, Bondesan told the newswire.


The new SUV will be sold in Europe, Latin America and North Africa, markets where Santana has a tiny or no presence, Bondesan added.

However, he acknowledged that Iveco must conduct due diligence on the Anibal before it can “update its engine” and seal the partnership, which is so far an “intention of long-term collaboration only,” the spokeswoman said.
