Fprd Europe’s sales and marketing chief Roelant de Waard said: “It’s an industry exclusive to power a seven-seat vehicle with an engine this small and we think it will be a revelation for drivers who want fuel economy without sacrificing driving fun.”

The C-Max gets 5.1l/100km (55.4 mpg) and emits 117g/km CO2 with either engine while the Grand C-Max achieves 5.2l/100km (54.3 mpg) and 119g/km.

The C-Max line now also will offer SYNC with emergency assistance, various driver assistance technologies, optional power tailgate and a new paint colour called ‘burnished glow’.

Ford has sold over 200,000 of the second generation C-Max line which added the seven-seat option.

By 2015, over half of all vehicles Ford produces in Europe for the continent will be powered by EcoBoost engines, which are also available in 1.6- and 2.0-litre forms.
