The hike was prompted by “excellent” demand for its vehicles in Europe, the company said.

Nissan will step up production of the Primastar van line (also sold as the Renault Trafic and Vauxhall/Opel Vivaro) by 20 units daily in May to reach 77,400 units by year end.

It will also crank up by 10% output of Navarra and Pathfinder pick up truck models by 10% starting in August, at a cost of EUR100,000.

Nissan will also boost engine production schedule at Barcelona, hiring 150 new workers.

The production boost will put Nissan ahead of schedule on Plan Top ‘07, a project the company launched in 2004 to turn the factory into one of its most productive in Europe.
