Car sales in Spain rose 23% in August as the market continues to post a robust recovery, helped by a strengthening economy and a renewed scrappage incentive.
ANFAC said that 55,918 new cars were registered in August making it the strongest August in Spain since 2009. The August gain follows a similar gain in July.
In the year-to-date, car sales were up 22.3% at 714,062 units.
Analysts say that the Spanish car market this year could exceed 1m units, a level not seen since 2009.
In further evidence of Europe’s car market recovery,data released by the CCFA shows that the French car market was up 10% in August, boosting hopes for market recovery as the French economy picks up. Sales of new cars in August reached 92,052 units.
