Reuters said data from industry body ANFAC showed 129,375 cars were registered in October, taking the total so far this year to 1,345,180 vehicles, down 1.5% from January-October last year. In September, sales fell 7.7% year-on-year.

ANFAC put the October rise down to the month having one more working day than a year ago and car makers investing heavily in marketing, the news agency noted.

Renault led sales in October, followed by Citroen and Seat, the report added.

ANFAC reportedly said rental companies drove the market in October, buying 14.7% more cars than a year ago, while individuals and non-rental companies bought 2.9% more.
