The Korea Herald said Song, 47, began his career in the motor import business in 1986, before heading Saab’s sales and marketing operations in 1993. In January 2002, he set up Hanbul Motors, the official Peugeot importer.

“Although sales of imported cars are growing rapidly in Korea, their market share is still too small,” Song told the paper, adding: “I will help member companies unite their efforts to take a 5% to 10% share in the domestic car market in the near future.”

Last year, imported cars accounted for 1.9% of all vehicle sales of 1 million units, the Korea Herald said, adding that association members also elected DaimlerChrysler Korea president Wayne Chumley and Toyota Motor Korea CEO Ichiro Ogiso as co-vice chairmen.
