Ssangyong Motor Co., currently under bankruptcy protection, posted its seventh consecutive quarterly loss following worker protests which paralysed production for more than two months.

Net loss totalled KRW177.1bn (US$143m) in the three months ended in June, widening from a KRW35.7bn (US$30m) loss a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing today. Sales fell 66% to KRW221.7bn (US$180m).
Output was down 74% in the second quarter after workers prevented occupied the company’s Pyeongtaek plant for 77 days from the end of May. Production was resumed yesterday.
Ssangyong entered bankruptcy protection in February after Chinese parent Shanghai Automotive Industries Corp. and the South Korean government rejected a bailout.
Operating loss in the second quarter was KRW27.5bn (US$20m), compared with a KRW32.4bn (US$30m) loss a year before.
