Toyota plans to import models from Europe into South Korea to avoid the effects of the strong yen on the cost of cars shipped from Japan.

The company also plans to increase Korean Toyota brand sales 160% to 13,000 units, and 90% to 8,000 Lexus sales, Reuters reported.

The company also recently launched the US-built Sienna minivan and Camry sedan in South Korea, a market which the Japanese automaker entered only relatively recently, launching Lexus first, in 2001, and only adding the Toyota brand late in 2009.

With the yen forecast to remain strong in 2012, analysts have predicted more non-Japanese Toyota models will be sold in there.

The company also plans on increasing ties with local parts manufacturers such as Hankook Tire.

Honda late last year was reportedly considering shipping cars to Korea from the US instead of Japan.
