Renault Samsung Motors’ labour union’s decision to go on a strike might hurt the company significantly, reports Business Korea.

On 5 July, the union voted in favour of the strike. It said that bad working conditions, forced voluntary resignation along with disregard by the company’s management for the collective agreement concluded in 2013 led to the decision to call a strike.

Starting August, Renault Samsung plans to manufacture 80,000 units of Nissan Rogue for export to the US. This will take its annual export volume to 100,000 units.

The conflict with the labour union could lead to production delay and impact the company’s business stabilisation.

A local partner firm of Renault Samsung said, “We are planning to increase the number of our employees by about 20% in the latter half of this year in step with the stabilisation.” He added, “I would like Renault Samsung to properly cope with the strike.”
