South Korea’s Renault Samsung confirmed it will produce its SM5 passenger car for sale under the Mitsubishi badge in the US market, as part of the broadening partnership between Renault-Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors.
The mid-sized saloon car is based on the Renault Laguna and is produced by Renault Samsung in Busan. The SM3 is expected to be badged as a Mitsubishi later on.
Earlier this year, Renault-Samsung announced it would produce 80,000 Nissan Rogue SUVs annually for the US.
South Korean automakers now enjoy better access to the US market thanks to the recent free trade agreement between the two countries.
