Renault Samsung Motors has reported record first quarter exports.
It shipped 22,408 vehicles during the first three months of the year, setting a new record for the automaker established only in September 2000.

This was an increase of 171.5% year on year, and equivalent to 40% total 2009 exports.
Renault Samsung’s previous high was in 2008 with exports of 14,031 units. The company said in a statement: “[Selling our vehicles] under the Nissan and Renault brands in overseas markets does help sales.
“”But the fact that the orders for Renault Samsung-made vehicles is increasing shows that the company has gained customers’ confidence with the high quality of the vehicles.”
The launch of the compact SM3 saw the company begin exporting vehicles in significant volumes in 2006. Exports have since increased steadily and accounted for 48% of total sales in 2008.
Renault Samsung is the sole source of the Renault Koleos crossover sold worldwide.
