LG Chem expects to secure orders to supply electric car batteries to Japanese companies, the company’s chief executive said.
It already has battery supply deals with 10 carmakers, including General Motors, Ford, Hyundai Moto, Kia Motors and Renault.

“There are no Japanese carmakers among the 10 customers, but we expect to win orders from more than two Japanese companies,” Peter Kim told Reuters, without elaborating.
A media report in September said LG Chem would jointly develop a lithium-ion battery system with Mitsubishi Motors for small electric cars to be launched by fiscal 2012 and new plug-in hybrids to be introduced in 2013.
