It posted year-on-year rises in general markets (25,520 units sold, up 50.9%), China (10,627, 34.7%), and Korea (23,305, 1.3%).


Europe and North American sales fell to 24,172 (-1.9%) and 28,940 (-5.6%), respectively.


Cumulatively, in the first eight months of 2008, global sales rose 16% to 951,948 units. China (101,490)  and general markets (167,922) saw the largest gains of 41.8%, and 35.7%, respectively.
Europe (10.8% to 240,504 units sold) and North America (2.3% to 237,183) were also up, year to date.


Hyoung-Keun Lee, senior executive vice president and COO of Kia’s international business division, said: “Although August is traditionally a slower month for sales, we continue to experience strong growth in China and general markets. Despite the challenges facing the industry, this month’s results are encouraging.”
