Automobilwoche magazine quoted a Hyundai manager as saying that Hyundai is in talks with Formula One boss, Bernie Ecclestone.
Hyundai Europe manager, Gerry Dorizas, would not confirm the report but did say that Hyundai will start a new motorsport engagement in the rally field in 2008.
Hyundai is launching six new models in Europe in the next three years, said Dorizas. The first is the Trajet successor, due in the middle of 2007. This will be followed by the new C-segment model which was previewed at the Paris motor show in September as the Arnejs concept. The same platform will spawn a hard-top folding roof cabriolet (spring 2008) and a VW Touran rival (2009/2010).
The sedan and estate version of the Arnejs model, and the other two models, will all be built at Hyundai’s new plant in Nosovice, Czech Republic. Although the plant has not yet started production Dorizas is already expecting capacity to be lifted from the initial 200,000 units to 300,000 by 2010/2011.
