The country’s leaders have until now used American or German bullet-proof models as no local product was considered secure enough.

Hyundai said three bullet-proof versions of its Equus limousine were delivered to Lee’s security team and one of them had been selected, news agency AFP reported.

Hyundai said it was time for a president to use a domestically-built car in tandem with South Korea’s status as the world’s fifth-largest car producing nation and that its presidential cars would increase brand-awareness since they will be used in November next year when the country hosts the Group of 20 summit.

Details and photos of the selected model were not disclosed for security reasons.
