Hyundai and Kia have raised their 2014 global sales target to at least 8m vehicles, up from 7.86m, as they expect high volumes in China sales to offset slowing growth elsewhere, particularly in the US and Europe.
Together, the South Korean brands rank fifth in global vehicles sales and say the new sales target would represent an increase of almost 6% over last year.

The Hyundai Automotive Group also expects to see higher sales numbers this year in India, Russia and Brazil.
Slower than expected sales of the new Sonata have seen sales slow in the US although numbers in Europe should be boosted by the launch this month of the new Hyundai i20.
