Chosun Ilbo newspaper quoted Mobis president Chung Suk Soo as saying Mobis could start to supply 50,000 auto axle modules a year to BMW’s factory in Shenyang, China, from 2010. The plant produces the 5-series including a stretched version unique to the local market.

A second deal could result in the suppler shipping 160,000 unspecified modules to VW’s new US factory in Tennessee which is scheduled to start building a new model designed specially for North America in 2011.

Mobis said only it was in talks with “various overseas automakers” on potential contracts. The Hyundai Motor affiliate is South Korea’s biggest components maker and supplies nearly 90% of its products to Hyundai Motor and affiliate Kia Motors.
