The sales feat, if achieved, will be a milestone for the two carmakers in 10 years since they started running their plants and selling cars in China, Maeil Business Newspaper said.

It is the fastest growth among global automakers present in China. Buoyed up by robust auto sales, Hyundai Motor Group is projected to sell cars worth US$40bn this year in the country.
Hyundai’s first plant in Beijing began producing the Sonata in December 2002 and selling it in 2003. Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motor, affiliate Kia’s joint venture with Dongfeng Motor, began sales with the Qian Li Ma in January 2003.
Over about a decade from 2003 to April this year, Hyundai and Kia have sold 6.74m cars in China.
