Prosecutors will summon Hyundai Automotive Group chairman Chung Mong-koo and his son Chung Eui-sun, president of Kia Motors and Hyundai Mobis, to find out how secret funds held by Hyundai Motor were spent, according to the Korea Herald.

Chung Mong-koo is currently on a visit to the US and his son was barred from leaving the country earlier this week.


Prosecutors arrested Lee Ju-eun, the chief executive of Glovis, a member of the Hyundai Automotive Group, at the end of March on a charge of paying millions of dollars to Kim Jae-rok, the arrested financier who was an aide to former President Kim Dae-jung, in return for business favours. The Korea Herald says that Chae described Lee as a “safe-keeper,” saying the “keeper” is responsible for the wrongdoings, but the prosecution is focusing its investigation into finding the person who was behind the scandals.


Kia has postponed a groundbreaking ceremony for its US$1.2bn Georgia plant until its president is permitted to travel again. The ceremony was scheduled for 26 April.
