Car sales in South Korea are expected to climb at a seasonally adjusted rate of 12% this year, helped by improving demand and imported car sales, according to a government forecast.

The ministry of knowledge economy said in a statement cited by Reuters domestic car sales were projected to reach 1.63m units in 2010, up from 1.45m units last year.

In September, domestic car sales fell 11% to 128,488 from a year earlier, when government incentives for car purchases lifted vehicle sales. Hyundai Motor topped the market with a 47.2% market share, followed by affiliate Kia Motors with 33.4%.
