The paper said those selected will be allowed to drive a GM Daewoo model of their choice for one year and will be asked to participate in occasional evaluation programmes. Drivers will be given all GM Daewoo passenger cars and will be responsible for normal driving expenses such as fuel, the report added.

According to the paper, GM Daewoo said 500 winners will be selected at random from applications received by December 12 and the remaining 500 will be selected from among the pool of applicants who sign up by March 12.

“We wanted an eye-catching way to show the Korean public the quality of our products first-hand,” GM Daewoo CEO Nick Reilly told Automotive News.

The paper said the head of GM Daewoo reduced his forecast for Korea-market sales, which he said would fall at least 35,000 units short of the company’s earlier forecast of 150,000 because of the country’s weakened economy, but noted that booming exports are more than offsetting the weakness at home.
