The report said the programme gives a 1% discount on customers’ monthly no-interest car instalment payments after they make more than a 15% down payment – the offer applies to most car models.

Dow Jones noted that South Korea’s domestic car industry has been using no-interest instalment payment deals to attract customers.

The news agency said GM Daewoo sold 571,219 vehicles last year, up 51% from the previous year’s 377,237, though its South Korean sales slumped 17% to 127,759 due to weak demand.
