GM Daewoo Auto & Technology cars will no longer carry the Daewoo brand in Europe beginning in January because the image of GM Daewoo, linked to that of bankrupt Daewoo Motor Co., has damaged sales in the region, JoongAng Daily reported.

GM Daewoo said yesterday that General Motors decided to sell GM Daewoo cars under the Chevrolet brand to European customers.
With the decision, GM Daewoo cars will not be sold as Daewoos overseas except for Vietnam, where assembly facilities are located, the company told the paper. Daewoos are sold under five brands – Suzuki, Buick, Pontiac, Daewoo and Chevrolet – in over 140 countries.
GM Daewoo is expected to export over 800,000 units this year. It exported 224,000 units in 2002, when GM bought Daewoo Motor, the report added.
