“The Lacetti Premiere will be a major reason for us to believe GM Daewoo will achieve the domestic sales target of 140,000 units this year,” vehicle sales, service and marketing head Rick LaBelle told Dow Jones Newswires.

GM Daewoo will start selling the redesigned compact car, with 1.6-litre petrol engine and six-speed automatic transmission, in South Korea in mid-November.

Shipments begin in early 2009 to Europe and to the US likely after 2010, LaBelle told Dow Jones. Sales in emerging markets, such as China, will begin next year.

The car will be sold as a Chevrolet in overseas markets.

GMDAT will also introduce a two-litre diesel version in Korea in early 2009, the report added.

Production initially will be exclusively in Korea but European output is likely in mid-2010, LaBelle told Dow Jones. The company also intends to make the car in the US but there is no specific timetable.
