A total of 12,790 imported cars were sold in South Korea in June, up 20.9% on the same month last year but down 4.6% on May, the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association said.

BMW and Mercedes-Benz led the import rankings.

The month on month fall was blamed on stock shortages and buyers waiting for new models to be launched.

Imports for the first six months of the year are up 19.7% from the same period last year at 74,487.

The best-selling models in June included the BMW 520d with 899 unit sales, the Toyota Camry with 587 and the Mercedes-Benz E300 with 481, KAIDA said
