Former General Motors Korea president and CEO Mike Arcamone has been named president, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft, in his hometown of Montreal, Canada, the company announced on Friday (13 January).

He replaces Gary Scott, who retired on 1 October last year.

“His new boss, Guy Hachey, the president and COO of Bombardier Aerospace, also worked at GM, so I’m guessing that’s part of the connection,” a source with knowledge of the situation told just-auto.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Mike Arcamone to Bombardier Aerospace,” Hachey said in a statement.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to lead Bombardier’s commercial aircraft business unit and excited to be returning to my home country,” said Arcamone in the statement, noting he was new to the aerospace industry.

General Motors Korea announced earlier that Arcamone had resigned for “personal reasons” and was to pursue other opportunities.

An announcement concerning a replacement CEO will follow, the statement said, with GM international operations head of manufacturing John Buttermore serving as interim chief.

Arcamone took up the role as head of what was then GM Daewoo in October 2009. On his watch, the company has greatly increased production of what are now Chevrolet-branded vehicles, turning GM Korea into a major exporter.

Bombardier aircraft include the Dash 8 regional turboprop, CRJ regional jets and CRSeries jetliners.

Ford CEO Alan Mulally is a former head of Boeing commerical aircraft.
