Tata Motors is to start building an assembly plant in South Africa in July for the production of commercial vehicles for the South African and other African markets.

Details such as planned capacity remain unclear at this stage.

In January this year, Tata Motors Managing Director (India Operations) P M Telang had said the company would assemble small and medium-sized trucks in the facility.

Tata currently exports both commercial and passenger vehicles to South Africa.

Tata Motors currently has truck assembly units in Thailand and Bangladesh.
