Total trading income of retailers in motor vehicles and accessories for the first six months of 2000 increased by 23.8 percent compared with the first six months of 1999, Statistics South Africa said on Thursday.

“This increase of 23.8 percent in the total motor trading income during this period, was mainly due to increases in the income from sales of new vehicles and used vehicles,” Stats SA in a statement.
“Furthermore, the seasonally adjusted total motor trading income for the three months up to June 2000 increased by 6.5 percent compared with the previous three months,” it added.

It said income from new vehicles had grown by 32.8 percent and used vehicles by 29.7 percent between January and June.

Stats SA added that total number of new and used vehicles sold during June 2000 had increased by 3.5 percent from May.
