New vehicle sales were down 4.6% year on year to 50,806 units in November, according to South Africa’s vehicle manufacturers’ association NAAMSA.

Part of the decline was blamed on the seven week strike during September and October which disrupted production and supply.

Passenger car sales were down 5.9% at 34,267; light commercial sales including pick-ups and minibuses were down 4.3% at 13,719 units.

Exports for the month fell 4.8% to 27,154 but NAAMSA predicted exports for the year will end slightly up on 2012 at around 281,000 units.
