Toyota South Africa is to add two high-performance Lexus hybrid models to its range.

It launched the Toyota-brand Prius hybrid there in 2005 according to the local Business Report website.

Toyota’s local head Johan van Zyl reportedly said the company would reapply to the government for import duty relief for hybrid vehicles.

The Lexus GS450h luxury sedan and RX400h SUV will reach South Africa in the fourth quarter of this year.

Van Zyl said that almost 600 Prius cars had been sold in South Africa since the model’s launch, Business Report added. Current sales were 30 units and the waiting list was about three months.
