Brembo, the upmarket Italian brakes systems supplier, has signed its first distribution deal in Africa with Sparepro, a South African parts company.
The deal is part of Brembo’s global expansion plans, aftermarket director Marco Moretti told reporters in Johannesburg. “The only empty space is Africa,” he said.

The company is targeting a 20% share of South Africa’s premium brake pad and brake disc market within three years. The company’s research predicted growth in South Africa’s premium car segment with European brands – Brembo’s core customers – doing well.
The company, which had followed its premium customers, including BMW and Mercedes-Benz, into India and China as an OEM supplier, had no plans yet to do the same in South Africa although Moretti said that it could be an option.
