South African new vehicle sales rose 12.7% in April to 45,635 units, maintaining impressive growth despite numerous public holidays during the month, an industry body told Reuters.

“Demand for new cars and commercial vehicles remained fundamentally strong,” the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) said in a statement.

A favourable economic environment, strong business and consumer confidence, growing real disposable income, and low interest rates continued to substantially enhance new vehicle affordability, it noted, according to the report.
