South African new vehicle sales fell 13.6% to 23,914 units in December from 27,693 units in the same month a year ago, latest National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa figures show, according to Reuters.

Toyota topped the car market with 7,706 sales, followed by Volkswagen (4,052), Delta’s GM lines (3,691) and Ford South Africa (2,595), the figures showed.
Full year vehicle sales were down from 366,899 in 2001 to 350,065 last year, a drop of 4.6%. All sectors except heavy commercial vehicles – up from 7,310 to 8,048 – recorded falls. New car sales were down 3.1% to 231,615 from 239,060 in 2001.
