The president of Sony Honda Mobility has said the new auto JV could procure batteries for its planned Afeela EV from the US.

Honda is currently building an additional factory there.

The new car is scheduled for US production and sale in 2026.

Automakers in the US can qualify for EV tax credits, including those for battery components, which must be manufactured or assembled locally.

Sony Honda Mobility president Izumi Kawanishi was speaking on the sidelines of the Japan Mobility Show 2023 in Tokyo, which opened to the press earlier this week, according to a Reuters report.

The JV is exhibiting an Afeela prototype to the public for the first time.
