Scheduled for delivery in July 2025, these buses will operate in Slemmestad, a suburban area of Oslo.

The Solaris Urbino 9 LE electric is a 9m, midi-class bus designed for both urban and suburban routes, meeting Class I and Class II homologation standards.

Furthermore, the vehicle is designed to offer ample seating, ensuring passenger comfort over longer distances.

To cater to the Nordic climate, the buses are fitted with a Scandinavian package, which includes enhanced thermal insulation, a snow chain drawer, and special anti-elk lights.

Since its launch in 2021, the Urbino 9 LE electric has seen adoption across several European countries, with dozens of customers in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Spain, Austria, Romania, Switzerland, and Italy.

Over 700 Solaris buses of various models now operate in the country.

Solaris Norge CEO Sverre Skaar said: “Norway has had success for many years with the diesel version of Solaris Urbino 8,9 LE, a perfect bus for countryside travel and smaller towns.

“Now, we aim for the new 9 LE electric to be just as successful, and are proud to introduce this bus to the Norwegian market together with Vy.”

In December 2024, Solaris Bus & Coach delivered what it claims to be the world-first ‘battery passport’ with its Urbino 18 electric bus to Berlin’s public transport company BVG.

This bus features high-energy batteries with a capacity of around 700kWh. The delivery is part of a larger contract for 50 articulated electric buses, which is expected to be fulfilled by 2025.
