Webasto-Edscha is expanding its production capacity for convertible roofs at its European textile competency centre in Slovakia.

In Velky Meder the two separate production plants of the convertible roof business unit of the Webasto Group are now being consolidated into one production plant. Pre-production and final assembly are now located under one roof. Overall, Webasto-Edscha employs about 430 people at Velky Meder.

“As the world market leader of convertible roofs, the European market is among Webasto’s most important regions in terms of sales,” said Holger Engelmann, chairman of the management board of Webasto at the inauguration of the new facility.

“The structural adjustment in Velky Meder has enabled us to create the prerequisites for more efficient processes and have additional production area for upcoming new projects.

“Our aim for the future is to be profitable even with lower volumes. We can achieve this with innovative ideas and by implementing high-efficiency processes at all our locations,” said Engelmann.

Putting pre-production and final assembly under one roof eliminates the need for the trips between the two previously existing locations.
