Volkswagen Group’s Slovakian unit said production jumped 36.3% last year on rising demand for the SUV models it assembles there.
The plant, close to Bratislava, builds the VW Touareg, Audi Q7 and produces parts of the Porsche Cayenne. Demand for these vehicles was particularly strong in Germany and emerging markets during 2010.

VW manufactured 144,510 vehicles in Slovakia last year, up from 106,000 cars in 2009, with revenues rising by 37.4% year-on-year to EUR4.04bn (US$5.63bn).
The VW Group plans to invest an additional EUR1bn in the central European country by 2015. It added that exports to China rose by 5.7%, making it the Slovak plants’ second biggest export market after Germany.
As well as SUV’s the factory will start production of a new small family car later this year.
Volkswagen Slovakia Chief Executive Andreas Tostmann, said: “We plan to boost the plant’s annual production capacity from current 280,000 units to 400,000 units with the launch of the new model.”
