PSA Peugeot Citroen has said it will stop production in Slovakia for 21 days in the fourth quarter due to weak demand. The plant experienced temporary shutdowns in the summer in response to slow demand in major export markets. 

“Demand for new cars in Europe has been falling continuously over the past 11 months,” PSA’s Slovakian unit said.

“The Trnava assembly plant of PSA Peugeot Citroen Slovakia decided to reduce the number of production days due to the falling demand,” it added.

The company has already halted production in Slovakia for 12 days this year. It said no job cuts were planned in Slovakia.

PSA’s Trnava plant has an annual production capacity of around 300,000 units a year and makes the Peugeot 207 and the Citroen C3 Picasso models. Most of its output is exported to France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
