Kia’s European plant at Zilina, Slovakia, set a new car production record during the first six months of 2012, building 149,000 vehicles – a 10% year on year increase.
Kia Motors Slovakia introduced a third shift at the start of this year and began production of the new generation Ceed in April, alongside the Sportage and Venga.
To meet demand for the new Ceed, output was boosted by 17% in the second quarter with more than 80,000 units produced. At the same time, engine production rose 22% to 237,000 units, compared to 2011.
Manufacture of the new Ceed wagon is scheduled to begin in the third quarter, with the new three-door Proceed model joining the line early in 2013.
