Slaughter and May and Kirkland & Ellis were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the automotive sector during the first half (H1) of 2024 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest Legal Advisers League Table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database has revealed that Slaughter and May achieved its leading position in terms of value by advising on $2.3 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis led in terms of volume by advising on a total of four deals.
Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Kirkland & Ellis registered improvement in deals volume as well as its ranking by this metric in H1 2024 compared to H1 2023. Its ranking by volume improved from ninth position in H1 2023 to the top position in H1 2024. Moreover, it was just shy of touching the $1 billion mark in total deal value and also occupied the third position by value during the review period.
“Meanwhile, Slaughter and May was the clear winner in terms of value in H1 2024 as it was the only adviser to surpass the $1 billion mark in total deal value.”
Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $943.6 million worth of deals, followed by Kirkland & Ellis with $923 million, Weil, Gotshal & Manges with $799.3 million, and J Sagar Associates with $542.7 million.
Meanwhile, Baker McKenzie occupied the second position in terms of volume with four deals, followed by Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison with three deals, Weil, Gotshal & Manges with three deals, and Allen & Overy with three deals.
