Bosch aims to double its Asia-Pacific sales to EUR22.2bn (US$30.56bn) by 2020, said Peter Tyroller, the company’s regional head.

It will focus on strengthening dealings with Japanese automobile manufacturers with a strong footprint in countries that are part of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Nikkei reported.

Bosch is building its first plant in Indonesia to produce engine components by the end of 2014. The company is spending EUR10m on the project, its sixth plant in the region. Bosch opened its second Thai plant at the end of 2013 to manufacture brake components and other products.

Bosch also aims to develop low-cost technologies in India, said Tyroller.

The company will spend EUR160m to expand R&D operations for control software. Competition among auto-component firms in Asia is expected to intensify, with Denso also constructing its third Indonesian plant, the Nikkei said.
