Belgrade claims the Kragujevac factory accounts for an extraordinary 3% of Serbian GDP and 8% of the country’s overall exports, with Prime Minister, Aleksandar Vucic noting his government would continue its “fight” to export Fiat brands to Russia.

Two rounds of technical negotiations have taken place so far, while further contact was being made with unspecifed other countries to export Fiat products.

“He [Vucic] told Fiat leadership they can always count on the broadest support possible from the Serbian government for their future investments, both through incentives and subsidies, and in every other way,” said a Serbian government statement.

“I am sure the agreement with Fiat will be extended after its expiry on 31 December, 2018.”
