Fiat is eyeing a car for manufacture at its Serbian plant (Zastava) that will could be sold around the world, Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne has said.

“Whatever it is that we will make in Serbia may have global applications,” Sergio Marchionne told reporters earlier this week.


In September 2008, Fiat signed an agreement to buy 67% of Serbian auto maker Zastava.


At the time of the agreement, Marchionne alluded to the possibility of having the Serbia plant be part of his plan to build a new brand for a low-cost car.
