Schaeffler will make continuously variable transmission (CVT) chains in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, a media report said.
According to gasgoo.com, it will be Schaeffler's first CVT chain production line in the greater China region and Asia and will enhance the product line at local joint venture Schaeffler Suzhou. The two phase programme will make 675,000 CVT chains a year worth RMB600m.

It will use fully automatic high-speed optical measuring and screening equipment and automated assembly lines and high-precision optical inspecting and fail-safe facilities. The logistics distance between China and Germany will be largely shortened after the programme is completed.
One of eight facilities built by Schaeffler Greater China, Schaffler Suzhou produces automotive clutch friction plates and other products. Headquartered in Shanghai, Schaeffler Greater China has so far set up plants in Taicang, Suzhou, Yinchuan and Najing and operates an R&D centre in Anting Town, Jiading District of Shanghai, employing around 13,000 peole in total.
