Volkswagen plans to begin assembly of CKD (completely knocked down) kits, including welding, painting and trimming, at its Russian plant in Kaluga on 20 October, a spokesman told the Prime-Tass news agency.

The plant currently assembles Golf, Jetta, Tiguan, Passat, Skoda Octavia, and Skoda Octavia Tour (wagon) models from SKD kits containing bodies welded, painted and trimmed in Germany or the Czech Republic before shipping to Russia. Volkswagen launched the Kaluga plant in November 2007.


According to ASM Holding, which monitors Russia’s automotive industry, it assembled 25,146 vehicles at the plant in the January–July period.
