Volkswagen has begun sales of its Passat and Jetta models assembled in Russia, the company said this week.

VW’s plant in the city of Kaluga plans to assemble 66,000 Skoda and Volkswagen cars in 2008.

In 2009, a second production line at the plant is planned to be installed – which will increase the plant’s annual capacity to 150,000 cars. A bodyshop and paintshop will also be added.

Production at the plant commenced at the end of November last year.

The plant also makes the Skoda Octavia.
