Interfax reports that Volkswagen AG is considering launching automobile assembly in Russia sometime during the next eighteen months. Interfax cited VW’s local press office as source and the report added that the Touran, based on Volkswagen’s Golf, might be the model to be built in Russia.

However, a decision on what model may be made is yet to be taken according to local media.

The Volkswagen Touran currently costs at least $20,000 in Russia.

VW currently imports about 10,000 cars a year to Russia.
